With another light gradient and a lot of haze, we were not expecting much from the sea breeze today however it filled in from the west south west at 6 to 8kts. We had six practice races scheduled with many of the other teams in the event doing them. For the first two races we had Samy on flight control and then Nicolai subbed in for the last four. For the whole team, these first two races were particularly exciting as they were Samy's first ever sailing races!
All in all, we are happy with how the practice racing is going. Young Azurra are looking like a well polished team and we still need to see how the Dutch are but we are confident in our boat speed and boat handling and overall feel happy with the progress we have made since last racing against the other teams. Starting is going to get more and more tricky as teams are more comfortable pushing the start and timing. When to pull the trigger on a reach start can be tricky but we feel we are getting stronger at this as a team.
Tomorrow is a rest day to allow all the boats to get fixed up and then we go into the first event with two training days beforehand where the teams are all given time slots on the boats to train on. The forecast still looks light moving forward with quite little gradient thanks to a high pressure system sitting between us and Sardinia however it is bringing warm weather which we are all thankful for despite the lack of wind.
